In Remembrance of Jerry Boster

Aloha All,

It is with a heavy heart and tears in my eyes that I inform you that Jerry Boster, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and past President of the Hawaii Parkinson Association passed away suddenly this week after returning home from a trip to the World Parkinson Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

I was at the conference with Jerry, and he was in his finest element, meeting with key national and international stakeholders, sharing his knowledge and promoting Hawaii to the world, while also sharing his vision for HPA. Believe me when I say that Jerry gave his all to the Parkinson’s community till the very end.

Jerry’s contributions as President for the past six years are numerous but the one that rises above all is the launch of the Resource Center at St. Francis Healthcare Campus in Liliha. Jerry had the vision to build a safe space for people with Parkinson’s and their care partners to receive local and national resources, consult with those who have Parkinson’s or just relax in a caring and loving environment. No one person can fill Jerry’s shoes but we will collectively work together to continue expanding Jerry’s vision.

I will miss Jerry not only for his mentorship to me as the new President of HPA, but for his guidance in helping me live my best life with PD. Jerry was one of the first people I met with Parkinson’s after I received my diagnosis, and he was like a brother to me. I will truly miss him.

Our condolences to his wife, Janice, the Boster ohana and their numerous friends in Hawaii and around the world. As more information regarding a celebration of life is released, we will keep you informed. Rest in Aloha, Jerry.

Glen Higa
President
