The Hawaii Parkinson Association is sponsoring a free speech therapy program for individuals in Hawaii diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. The program is completely free to participants as it is funded through the Atherton Family Foundation grant and through a Community Grant from the Parkinson’s Foundation. The program offered is SPEAK OUT!, a program specifically developed for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease by the Parkinson Voice Project in Richardson, TX. Speech, Swallowing, & Voice Specialists of Hawaii has partnered with the HPA to provide these services by local speech pathologists.

Timeline:

The grant is awarded on a first come first come basis. Applicants will be accepted until all spots are filled.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for this HPA Speech grant program, individuals must

  • (1) have a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease or Parkinsonism,
  • (2) be a Hawaii resident,
  • (3) have speech or voice issues,
  • (4) be able to commit to twice a week therapy for 4-6 weeks in a row, and
  • (5) have access to a computer/laptop/iPad with a camera as all sessions are virtual (on the computer).
